Chromosome - physically separated file systems

Gene - file

Haploid Organisms - have a single set of chromosomes

Diploid Organisms - have a double set of similar chromosomes

Mutations - read/write errors

Recombination - (in haploid organisms) a process of mixing information which makes one chromosome out of a pair of similar chromosomes

Selection - defines how long an organism can live, and how much progeny it can make during its life in a given environment

Genotype - a full set of chromosomes or a full set of genes

Phenotype - features of an organism defined by its genotype
